The Shaker has proven itself over the years as a signalling and communication tool while diving, as it is a simple and effective method for attracting the attention of your buddy or group. A Shaker is used underwater when you want to show something to your buddy, but also in emergency situations.

Please note, while the Shaker is audible underwater, it is not a very effective signalling device at the water’s surface. To attract attention in an emergency at the water’s surface, other acoustic signals such as diver whistles, which are more easily heard at the surface, or the famous Dive Alert, which is very audible over long distances both above and below water, are much better suited. Alternatively, signal buoys at the water’s surface can also be very effective.
