Seamless steel cylinders are used as pressure vessels for a wide range of applications. Diving cylinders with an 18-liter capacity, alongside the 20-liter diving cylinder, are the first choice for dive guides and diving instructors at dive centers and on dive boats. The average sport diver might argue that this cylinder is too large. However, when a dive guide needs to supply a diver with air, the cylinder cannot be large enough. The 18-liter diving cylinder has the advantage of being approximately 6.0 cm shorter than the twenty-liter diving cylinder. This prevents divers with short upper bodies from bumping their heads on the valve during a dive.

The main applications are as storage, pressure buffers, and the transport of compressed gases.
